When interviewing someone onsite, candidates often meet with several team members over the course of a few hours. During this time, I recommend all interviewers and coordinators collaborate in real time on the interview notes. Google docs works fine but any real time, collaborative software should work.
Here’s why this approach works:
1. Dynamic Questions
Real time collaboration allows you to see the questions a previous interviewer asked and if your questions need changes based on areas of concern or particular ability.
2. Saving Time
If someone isn’t going to work, then don’t waste your team’s time or the candidate’s. Tracking the interviews in real time, allows you to stop a process between interviews in a polite manner, without more time investment.
3. Switch to Selling
When a candidate appears to be working out, the leadership team needs to know ASAP, so you can transition from assessing, to selling the candidate on why they should join and get an offer prepared immediately.
Best of luck out there.
