You Must Prepare for Meetings
I realize this might sound obvious, but I am amazed how many people show up to meetings with absolutely no idea why they are present. Even if you’re a big shot, it always looks terrible, so here’s the basics to avoid making a fool of yourself.
1. Communication Review
Check your messages with the attendees and make sure you’re up to date on the conversation. Don’t make people repeat themselves because of your inaction.
2. Affinity
Check online profiles so you can identify any potential affinity ties such as location, education, interests etc. Starting with these talking points typically helps to break the ice in a conversation and makes it seem less transactional.
3. The Ask
Prepare your request or prepare your response to an expected request. This is particularly important as it’s the whole reason for the call. Don’t waste the meeting by not moving to an answer.
Best of luck out there.
